Mother and Grandmother, Merle Olive Hately passed away after a bout of pneumonia. She was predeceased by her husband Sam Hately and her sisters Hazel Patterson and Evelyn Moen. She is survived by her brother Glenn Hillerud (Kay) and family; her sister Beulah Giebelhaus and family; plus a large extended group of Patterson, Moen and Solberg cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her children Linde (Liz) Zingaro, Sandy (Barb) Hately, Wendy Lee and Stewart (Kristi) Hately; her grandchildren (whom she adored) and her greatgrandchildren (whom she would have adored, given time).
Anyone who was fortunate enough to spend time in Merle's company enjoyed her sense of humour and great wit and knew she did not suffer fools \emdash unless you had forgotten the combination to your locker for the hundredth time.
She had the most amazing laugh, \emdash or cackle, depending on the situation. She was compassionate, kind and, when necessary, could display amazing patience.
In lieu of cards or fl owers, a donation made to the Pender Harbour and District Health Centre in Merle's name would be most appropriate.

• She immigrated on 30 Sep 1929 to Sumas, Washington, USA. to Bellingham with family
• She worked as a Teacher in 1949 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. Bad Heart School District 4369. --
Bad Heart School District #4369 was established in 1928, and in 1930, $500 was borrowed to build a new school and barn of logs. In 1948 the school burned to the ground, and because of the size of the district, it was decided to build two new schools: North & South Bad Heart. Teachers included Florence Mae Foster, E. Pearl Grimmeth, Mrs. Janet Jenkins, Mary Looker, Miss Sheets, Bill Wight, Merle Hillerud, Olive Simmons, Frank Taves, Florence Reimer, Glen Dixon, Mr. Atkinson, Mr. Horrick.

Merle married Samuel H. HATELY, son of Samuel William HATELY and Nellie Elizabeth CLARKE, on 9 Jun 1945 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. (Samuel H. HATELY was born on 23 Nov 1912 in Barrhead, Alberta, Canada and died on 18 Feb 1994 in Madeira Park, British Columbia, Canada.)
